Understanding Impressions

About Impressions

Impressions in Novel refer to the number of people who view a Novel embed on your website. This metric provides insights into the engagement and reach of your content.

Novel's technology only logs an impression when a user has actively watched a video. Impressions are not flagged when a user has not engaged with your content, for example by simply accessing the page.

Estimate Impressions

To estimate your monthly impressions on Novel, you can use a simple formula based on your total site traffic. The general guideline is to divide your total monthly traffic by five.

Here's the formula you can use: Estimated Monthly Impressions = Total Monthly Traffic / 5.

For example, if your site receives 50,000 visitors in a month, you can expect to get around 10,000 impressions.

However, several factors can influence this estimation:

  • The placement of the Novel embed on your site. Embeds placed in prominent locations are likely to be seen by more visitors.

  • The quality and relevance of the video content. Engaging and relevant videos are more likely to attract viewers.

  • The overall user experience and design of your site. A well-designed site can encourage more impressions.

To understand how this may correspond with the subscription tier you choose, you can access Billing within the app, which shows a visual slider to help you select the plan that makes sense for you.

Track Impressions

To find your impressions count within the Novel platform, navigate to Data. Here, you will see a detailed overview of your usage metrics, including the number of impressions your videos have received.

Cost Implications: If you exceed your plan's impression limit, additional impressions will incur overage charges. For instance, surpassing the 30,000 impressions on the Growth plan will result in extra costs of $25 for every 1,000 impressions over the limit.
